Unexpected

Life is full of unexpecteds. Even in the knowing we seem to still be taken off guard when they come. Summer 2014 is looking completely different than my family ever could have imagined. Though the details of our circumstance don't matter right now, my family is facing some hard days. Because I want to pour everything into them, I will be stepping back from this space for a while. I hate not getting to keep up with camp and share those things here with you. I hate not getting to introduce you to our awesome staff of 2014. (If you enjoy keeping up with those things, check out our Facebook Page and Instagram. The two photographers God sent our way this summer are doing a wonderful job capturing camp life!)

For now, may we both be found running to the well of Living Water. He alone is our rock, our refuge, our comfort and our peace. There is no one like our God! Amen?

lessons from a teeball game

Tegan is playing teeball for the first time this year! What an adventure. All the little kids ages 3-5 trying to figure out the goals of the game--completely more entertaining than watching a grown up game!

While watching his last game, Tegan taught me a few things about life and being more child-like! 

1. Try your best even if you don't really know what you're doing!
2. Don't be afraid to have someone help you along.

3. Don't worry about comparing yourself to the other players, just play hard!
4. Be proud of your effort rather than beat yourself up for lack of perfection.

5. Smile more -- this is fun!

8. Be faithful in the place you're put. As part of a team, it matters!

Who knew teeball could teach so much? The delight of all the kids just having fun speaks volumes to the adult world watching them! Let's both be more child like today, what do you say?

Canopy of Light

Under the canopy of quieting light play was found. The sort of play making the heart have wings as swallowfuls of fresh air are ingested.

Having someone to share the play with deepens the enjoyment. But the light. The light makes the enjoyment possible. Sheltered under the canopy of light we find freedom and hope and delight. The way is made clear and the fears are lessened. 

The light allows us to have our bearings when we fall, when our pain and struggle would try to undo us. The light helps us see what we otherwise could not see. Where there is light, there is hope.

quirks and all

For the past few days my blog server has been under attack. Terrible, right? They seem to have things under control now, but I missed showing up with you here! There's been lots going on at camp, at home and in my heart, some of which I look forward to sharing with you! For today...

I share a recent picture of our family. I love these people! Quirks and all! Our road together in camp ministry can feel challenging at times, exhausting for sure, but most definitely worth it! I'm thankful to do life with them! Thankful to be at this place in the journey with them. Let me be honest for a second, there have been times I wasn't sure we'd be here together! Thanks be to God for His continued faithfulness in our lives, thanks to many along the journey who have been used to help us along, thanks to the hemming in of God's grace, we are here together as a family!

I share this knowing some reading here may not have a family picture like this. Brokenness or loneliness may seem the only family you have. Can I just encourage you? First, your story isn't done being written. Second, God sees you and gets it. He moves heaven and earth to rescue you when you run to Him (Psalm 18). He won't leave you undone, He won't abandon you. Allow Him to hem you in with His grace.

Wherever you are in your journey, be thankful for the beauty of today. Your life will feel more beautiful with gratitude on your lips! I'm glad you stopped in today.
